I put e-e-k in the word "geek" when my new computer shorted out.
When they say that an item is "computer compatible" don't believe it. I tried to install a new scanner to my new computer when it shorted out. The reason was my computer had different specifications. Specifications has to be both software and hardware compatible.
Knowing your computer specifications before installing a new scanner is important. I now know that I have to first call the manufacturer or product salesman for compatibility. My scanner did not comply with specifications when it broke down. My mother board had shorted out.
I had to call warranty for a new mother board replacement. It is a good thing that I had a warranty with my computer. It is the one thing I did right with my new computer. At first, I had a little difficulty operating my new system. But, over time it was more like smooth sailing. I didn't depend on technical support any more after a few months.
There has to be a better way to make the right item purchases for your computer system hardware or software alike. I never do this on my own any more. I contact the experts at technical support or a product salesman.
When my electrical mother board shorted out there could have been a fire or some other hay wired experience happening. It is so important to rely on the experts and not to just think something is compatible when it says it is.
It is a horror story to destroy your own new computer mother board. The computer won't work at all without it. It is the brains of the computer. I needed to replace the mother board as soon as possible.
When I called warranty they came over to my apartment with the new part in hand. The repairman took my computer apart and discovered the short in the mother board immediately. He's seen other computers short out too. The gap would have to be soldered together again to its original state. I then was left with the old mother board to be mailed in for return.
After I returned the original mother board I was not charged extra monies. This must be a common problem with the computer maintenance man. He didn't seem like it was the first shorted out computer he saw.
I never have any more horror stories to tell about my experiences on my computer.
I don't know anything about compatibility. I don't know now and never will. I must rely on the experts again about specs and features on my own system's components. Trying something on your own first might damage your computer system as it did mine.
