Is it the bright lights and big cities that attract us like moths to a flame? Or could it be that America provides everyone the opportunity for personal freedom, whether emotional, artistic, physical, or religious? America is organized in the way that it is unorganized in promoting itself as a wide-open canvas for any one person to make their mark on. From speaking to people overseas in many countries, I concluded that a high percentage of them view the whole of America the same way they view our city of Las Vegas; a bright, beautiful, indescribable place where the sky is the limit.
This is true. All of us have the ability to make opportunities happen regardless of our monetary status. It is a true test of our determination to take the best of what America has to offer and make it work for us. This is why so many people want to live in the States. It is a massive landmass, varying in climate and natural beauty. This openness is reflected in the opportunities available and if they are available then people will flock to take advantage of them. America firstly promotes freedom from within the soul. We are free to walk out our front door, to have a choice of supermarkets, cars, clothes, faith, and doctors. This is the America in which we are raised. We are used to having choices and the freedom to make them. We love this aspect of our lives. Having a choice' is so vital to our personal lives and takes up such a large percentage of it, that when it is being threatened, either externally or internally, we not only stand; we march. We do this because we can. And this is why many people love America. We can do anything in this country. Sadly this 'anything' sometimes leads to self-destruction and other negative aspects of humanity affecting the positive - but which country does not have the same problems?
Also one can not ignore America's blatant audacity. We love and admire it in children and young adults, which reflects positively on the environment that encourages it. America is an audacious teenager and always will be. Just one glimpse into the art world and we can see how it is full of beautiful controversy, and the literary world knows no bounds! One can get lost in the wilderness of the parks or in the smallest of towns. America is quirky, expressive, magnificent and dangerous. Therein lives the excitement of the unknown and this is also what attracts admiration and love. It might be dangerous, but because of the thrill of discovery, whether personal or other, it is often worth the risk.
Whilst we may have our stressful issues with our government, this does not oppress our everyday lives. We can still go to work each day, discover a new hobby, or follow a different spiritual path without hesitation or fear. This is how I, as a citizen, view my own country and love it despite its flaws. However it is extremely important for us to believe that their same 'flaws' do not originate from within us as citizens. We strive to achieve what we can despite what our government does. We will always, always have the right to tell them when we feel they are wrong. And we do this because we can and because we love our America.
