Go green and give up your cell phone?

For what regards me, YES, it's surely possible although in Italy, my Country, I'm a real rarity among a mass of cell phone addicted, as Italians are today.
In fact, I still don't have and I will never have a cell phone and I live well without it and I wish to write something about this issue.

First of all, "going green" is not the only reason for which to refuse cell phones, in my opinion, although I'm aware that their miniaturized electronic circuits require the COLTAN, a precious natural metallic alloy containing the rare tantalium (used as a special conductor) and extracted in Congo, whose mines provide about 80% of this ore.

For the control of this strategic ore, a terrible civil war has been unchained in this unhappy Country, until few years ago, by the multinational companies of all the Western world by means of armed militias and foreign armies, coming from the bordering Countries.

So, if I were a extreme pacifist, I would refuse cell phones only for this reason, because dirty of the blood and the tears of millions of Congolese people. This has surely an influence on my conscience of world citizen, but it's not the only reason; there are many others, more personal and regarding the limits of my freedom, privacy and even health and I must admit they are not very "green", (i.e., related to my love for nature).

The first reason is that I can't accept to talk about my own business in public, when I'm out of home, because the arguments of my dialogs by telephone can be very personal, delicate or simply stupid and I don't want that extraneous people can hear them (also not desiring it) above all, when I'm called and I'm not ready to talk.
When, instead, I need to call somebody from outside home (at work or along the street), there are always telephone boxes nearly in every street, offering me some privacy to talk and even a little space to write something on a paper sheet.

Another reason is that cellular phones are seriously suspected of being harmful for health because of their electromagnetic emissions at direct contact with the ears and at few mm from the brain.
The clinical tests on this problem are still not decisive, but I see with disappointment there's very little interest to perform them, until finding a really scientific evidence, in consumer defense associations, zero interest in public health organizations and less than zero in the same producer companies (obviously!).

These risks for health regard neurological disturbs, headache
