Humans are a selfish species, we tend to forget that we are part of the animal kingdom. We forget that we are a mammal and indeed that we have other species inhabiting the earth with us. We think of ourselves as an intelligent species, when indeed most of the "intelligent" things we have done have had harmful effects on the other species and the planet as a whole. The question here is how can we save the human species? The question that truly needs to be asked is should we save the human species? We have been the cause of death among species here on this planet for many centuries and the longer we stay around the more other species will not stay around. Everyday we are responsible for the extinction of a plant or animal...we are even destroying ourselves and in the process taking an unhealthy toll on our planet as a whole. Why save ourselves? We are the most intelligent creatures on the planet, yet are we? We pollute our planet and in turn wipe out vital other species that are crucial to our survival. Yet we need our electricity, we need our transportation, we need our technology for communications and work (which in turn provides us with paper taken from trees, or plastic that disintegrates slowly) to help us pay for everything we so desperately need.
The human species is supposed to be the most intelligent creature on this planet, so how intelligent is it of us to destroy other species through no fault of there own. In this sense do we even deserve to be saved?
We have known for a long time the harmful effects we have had on our planet yet we just keep polluting it. We know deep down inside what we truly need to do if we do intend to save ourselves, but we do not want to go without our technology.
We have wiped out entire species on this planet time and time again, sometimes for survival purposes sometimes by mistake...our extinction will be of our own doing. Think of it this way, most of the vaccines we create most of the drugs we use come from plants or thier derivatives. Now what if one of the many species of plants that we have made extinct held part of the antidote to the HIV or AIDS virus. Just something to think about.
So, yes how can we save the human species when we have already killed other species off? If the most intelligent species can not figure out a way to live harmoniously with other species, then the question we need to ask is why should we save ourselves?
