I am a caged bird, wishing to be free
To fly out from the obscene,
All the evil, all the bad,
And everything else that so makes me sad.
Freedom is taken away from me,
Stripped of all my hope, yet I wish the world to see,
All my thoughts on paper
All my dreams unhampered.
I long to set my soul free,
All the feeling building up,
All the chances I could mess up.
The thoughts inside me long to escape,
And I am almost ready to break.
I am flawed, you will see.
But I am ready to grow my wings.
To fly away, to just be me,
And for all the people to hear me sing.

I feel like a caged bird
Who will never be free again
All my hopes and dreams have been shut in
Never to be realized again

Till the edge cut the roof deeper
And blood escaped the wound
Oh, woman o' scorn should
