The Curse of Anrak
Long ago, during the Age of Dreams, the Demon, Agzuul, came unto this World and raised up an empire of Skulls in the name of Kharneth, god of murder. A great warrior named Anrak Fellhand , of the Wolf tribes, opposed the Demon and led the Tribes against the Demon and his minions. The Demon's armies were stronger and the Wolf Tribes were defeated. Anrak was brought before the Demon, who laughed and mocked Anrak as a fool for opposing an Immortal. Anrak raged in defiance, cursing the Demon as arrogant and prideful. Agzuul, the Demon, cursed Anrak in turn, saying; "As thou art a man of spirit and fire, so shalt thou be eternally, to regret and grieve for ever, a reminder to those who wouldst defy me"...
The Demon, Agzuul, sacrificed hundreds of captive tribesmen, all of Anrak's family and friends, in order to make the warrior feel his curse for ever. The power worked and Anrak was made immortal. However, Anrak's bitter heart was corrupted by the horrors he had seen and now saw daily in the Demon's ceremonial chambers. Anrak prayed to the Gods of Blood for vengeance. . . His prayers were answered by Kharneth, who saw in Anrak the way to shame Agzuul for his pride and arrogance. Anrak grew in power, secretly at first, then openly as his fortunes grew. The Armies of the Demon were now led by Anrak, since the Demon was preoccupied with cruelty and torture and Anrak had become the most powerful of his minions. Slowly, Anrak won the loyalty of the Demon's captains and generals, his priests and sorcerers, until he, Anrak, rose up and slew the Demon with his own hand, taunting him as he died away from this World. Anrak was worshiped now in place of the Demon. Power was his.
But all things are weighed in the Balance of Time,
and this was no exception.
Anrak's rule was challenged by a warrior called Toreg, who led his people out of darkness and Demon-Worship to the light of the Powers of Creation. By his example, the Tribes of Man rose up and rebelled against Anrak's tyranny. Toreg leading the Army of the Powers was unstoppable and Anrak was defeated by Toreg in single combat, but Toreg was killed in doing so, dying along side his enemy. Both armies drifted away, grieving and leaderless.
Anrak's grieving followers shared out the pieces of his dead body, in hope of keeping his power for their own use. They were mostly unsuccessful, except for his Eye and his Hand.
These objects were consecrated by necromantic and demonologist Priests of Kharneth, who were destroyed
