The Schools fail them by treating them not as children who can learn but as their disabilities. My daughter is 11 and is reading at a second grade level and is in the 5th almost 6th grade and i dint see the school system doing their job and trying to get her at the level she should be at. They are treating her as a kid who wont learn and i know darn well that she can. We have her in 4 different dance classes modern, ballet, hip hop,and hula. If she wasn't able to learn why is she picking up all the dance moves and excelling at them. I believe the school system is just pushing them through so they can get the money grants that they need and not serving the child's needs. I am very disappointed in the school system and what they aren't doing to get my child through. We have fought tooth and nail not to get her in the system of special education and when she keep regressing in regular classes or gen ed classes we thought OK lets put her is special needs class, well she will exceed some but regress back and its just like a loose loose situation.. you basically get to the point that you don't want to go to conferences anymore because you hear all the negative maybe you will hear some positive but not allot. I have totally had it with the school system and how they treat children.. why cant they be more upbeat and keep teaching the child and get them to where they should be at. By the time they are in high school they are so behind that when they graduate they need help just to get a job to function at. and the school system has them beat down that their self esteem is also pummeled. I just dont get it how the system can get away with such a thing and no one is standing up for the children and saying hey these are children they need help they need to get up to what their grade level should be at and quit treating them as special and start treating them as children who can learn but need a little extra help to get there. As a parent Im frustrated with the system and I want change the child wants to learn but the disability holds them back. thats not fair and then the school needs to help them with learning... not disabilites learning... why should they child be punished for the short commings of the school and their inabilites to want to teach them to get at grade level. Stand up parents for your child and tell the teachers you wont take it any more treat my child as you would their peers... teach them dont hinder them.
