Colour therapy is a subtle non-invasive therapy making use of the healing energy contained within the visible rays of colour. Colour therapists introduce the optimum balance of colour energies in order to promote harmony and balance between the body, mind and spirit. Only when this balance occurs are we able to work towards a state of perfect health. Colour therapy is at present a complementary therapy, which works well with many other methods of treatments.
You do not have to be ill to benefit from colour therapy, as we are all striving towards wholeness and perfect health. Colour therapy encourages us to take personal responsibility for our life and to use the healing power within ourselves.
A colour therapist can use colour to balance energy, aid creativity and learning, release blocks and alleviate physical, emotional and mental conditions. Colour therapy helps people understand their needs for certain colours, and show them how to use these colours for healing, health, relaxation, inspiration and protection.
The colours most used by practitioners are those of the spectrum, identified when light is passed through a prism or refracted as a rainbow: violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. Each is linked with a particular chakra, organs, glands and physical, psychological and spiritual conditions. For example, blue relates to the throat chakra, whose associated organs are the throat, lungs and the thyroid gland. Imbalance in this area is said to affect the upper digestive tract.
Conditions said to benefit from colour therapy include emotional and behavioural problems, stress-related diseases like eczema, depression, headaches, insomnia, high blood pressure, chronic fatigue syndrome and menstrual problems.
Colour is simply light of different wavelengths, and each colour has its own specific wavelength and vibration. These wavelengths resonate with energies in different areas of the body.
As we absorb colour energy not only through the eyes but also through the skin and the electro magnetic field or aura, Colour Therapy can be used on the body in a number of different ways.
As with any therapy, each therapist may have his or her own 'style', however, a number of common methods used are: Solarized Water, Light boxes or lamps with colour filters, colour silks, meditation with colour and colour breathing.
Colour Therapy is a totally holistic and non-invasive therapy for everyone. Colour therapy is safe to use alone or alongside any other therapy whether orthodox medicine or another complementary therapy and is safe and helpful for adults, children and animals too.
Colour should be a part of our everyday life. All we need to do is to heighten our awareness of the energy of colour and how it can transform our lives. The capacity for health and well being is within us all.
Please be aware that no complementary therapy should be considered as an alternative to professional medical advice where necessary and no properly qualified complementary therapist would suggest that, neither would they suggest that you stop taking your medication etc. If you are taking medication you should consult the prescribing professional before you stop taking it.
