How do you get your teen off the couch during summer? Well that is a very good question. These teenagers now days! all they do is spend their whole summer watching television, playing games on the computer or listening to music that's so loud, you get calls from the neighbors to turn it down!(I actually shouldn't be talking as I'm one of those teenagers). Tired of telling them to turn off that television or to do something useful? Well, obviously, they have nothing else to do so they just won't listen, will they? So take their opinion for once. Ask them what sports they like to play or what their favorite hobbies are. It helps to let your teen take control of his/her life.
Be it skipping, swimming, soccer, basketball, piano, guitar or even dancing, there are summer classes for them all. Or is your teen too shy to socialize? Well the answer to that is to send them for a few drama classes. Get them interested in activities they like. Depending on their age group and also their taste, the activities vary. Can't afford summer classes or does your teen refuse to go for any? No problem! All you have to do is get some of his/her friends over to the park so they can play some kind of sport and if they aren't willing, bribe them what every teen wants and needs - food!
Every teen needs to hang out with people their age, in order to develop socializing skills as well as get rid of boredom. Encourage your teen to join a band, go for summer camp or even start some kind of club. Anything as long as they're out of the house and if they don't, then, make their life miserable inside so that they would wanna go(just kiddin' but if that works, then why not?....ha ha). So try to spice up their life a little bit if they refuse to do it on their own. Experiment with different things, use variety, 'cause teens get extremely bored very easily. If they absolutely refuse to try new things then,.....just keep pushing and they'll finally give in.
Being a teenager is not easy and being a lonely teenager is even harder. Encourage your teen to bring friends over(though trust me, don't ever let them have an unchaperoned party .....i speak from personal experience..... *shudder*)
So if you think that your teenager is the laziest pig in the world.....think again, 'cause there are millions of others who are of the same species as your teen. So all you need to do in order to get them up and running is to find an activity that your teen likes and encourage him to pursue it, and I assure you, a bigger difference will be seen in you teen!
