There once was a tooth
That lived in Rachael's mouth
He liked his home so much
He never wanted to come out
But when he felt the first wiggle he knew
That what he dreaded was coming true-
His days of chewing
Were soon through
"Oh My," he said, "I will fight,
I will not move if it takes all my might!"
So that little tooth put on his fighting face
And he became determined not to leave his place
Rachael wiggled him with her finger
And she wiggled him with her tongue
Her brother and sister wiggled him too
But that tooth refused to budge
"No!" he cried, eyes closed
As he fought to hold his ground
The other teeth grew mad at him
For they knew it was his time to come out
Rachael grew cross at him too
For everywhere she went
People would say to her,
"Dear, your tooth is bent."
And then they would all offer
To yank the stubborn tooth out
And Rachael grew afraid that it would hurt
And she would pout
So that little tooth caused trouble
Because of his determined ways
And he planted his roots deeper
Still wearing his fighting face
But that tooth knew his days were numbered
When he heard Rachael's mother say, "Enough!"
And he prepared himself for a fight
With a big, long nailed grown-up
"I'm pulling that tooth out today,
If it's the last thing I do!" she said
She reached her hand into Rachael's mouth
And grasped the tooth with nails that were red.
Rachael grimaced and squeezed her eyes shut
As her mother pulled and tugged
The tooth said, "No, I'm staying!"
As Rachael's gum he hugged
But time and growing up were against him
And in his heart he knew
He must go the way of all the others
And be put under a pillow too
So as he felt his roots getting weaker
He smiled to himself and said.
"At least I didn't give up
And I fought till the very end!"
Rachael's mother gritted her teeth
And gave one last big tug
And before he knew it that stubborn tooth
Had given his last gum hug
"Hooray!" said all the other teeth
"He's out, and Rachael's free!"
"I got it!" Rachael's mother said,
"Open your eyes and see!"
Rachael slowly opened her eyes
And looked into her mother's hand
There that bothersome tooth sat
Looking rather proud and grand
"Mom," said Rachael, "That tooth was tough
He didn't want to leave"
Her mother smiled and pointed to the little tooth
"Look," she said, "I think it's giving you a wink!"
