to be invisible
i come to the edge of the sand to sit
looking at far away shapes and lights
wondering who else is there
on that remote beach
head lost to the tides
these shells poking hard against my skin
remind me of those days spent
counting my ribs showing through
waiting for you
flying the redeye to your town
with anchored hopes so heavy
i can't believe i didn't sink
into the Atlantic
this coast is a long way from
icy waters and distant times
here the pacific breeze allows impulsive
droplets of water to dance
atop the waves and into my lap i feel adrift but the wind keeps me
from being too sad
spring was lost to me this year
winter stretched
everything gray and blending
there are few people here this early
only those of us who come to the shore
needing to know what it feels like
to stand on the edge of the world
and not fall off

Doubling back to where
I was just standing,
I forget what it was
that I needed.

Few tears will be shed
While remembering the one
Who walked among us
But was never really there
Intangible traces
Of mere existence

A Window To My World
Here is a window, a bearing of soul
Look inside, God plays the leading role
Through defeat and success
