Futile Passion
Clouds enshroud her life
Their rings lay on the table
Intimate shadows of man and wife
Are splashed across the wall.
She tries again, desperately
To ensnare his wandering eye.
No words she could find
Will work to change
The way his eyes see her.
She will fall upon the bed
Spent, exhausted and waiting
To be torn apart by his gaze
Then completely ignored.
Moonlight lights the bed
Unused candles fill the nightstand
Branches in shadowed beauty
Are displayed upon the wall.
She knows it's futile to try
To capture his wayward heart.
She's the one who is confined;
A hopeless caged parrot
Kissing the ring
He extends to her.
He has become her confessor
Her judge, her false witness
And her rigged jury.
