Really, the only job that qualifies as a full-time job is being a Mom. Where else do you need to be on standby mode 24/7? Especially for the first-time Moms, you're learning a whole new era of mess and stains, the difference between hunger-cry and just-want-you-to-be-there-cry, and let's not forget fever and bruises. However, considering the fact that being a Mom usually comes with no paycheck, it could very well be your most rewarding job yet.
That is why a lot of women are starting to tap into the world of working-from-home. It's a side job that allows Mom to help contribute to the household while fulfilling her full-time job as a super Mom.
As sweet as it sounds (think: no traveling costs, no need for expensive formal wear, working at your own pace, and being with your family all the time!), there are a couple of guidelines you can follow to ensure you're well on your path to be a successful work-at-home Mom.
1) WE SAY DRESS DOWN, NOT SHABBY
Most Moms forgo the importance of a professional, clean outlook when the only living thing you see is your 4-year-old, waist-deep in crayon pigments. But, believe me, with a simple brush through hair, and clean pressed casual Tee, you'll feel fresh and much more ready to take on the day's craze.
2) RESPECT YOURSELF
There's a reason why most Moms would choose to work from home. It allows you time to spend with kids, and to oversee everything that's going on at home, which otherwise you might have missed if you're out there struggling with your Boss.
Respect and love yourself for that. Hold yourself in high esteem and watch everything fall into place by your feet.
3) RESPECT YOUR JOB
Though working at home means you have none of the busy schedules and numerous politics to deal with, it is imperative that you give the job the equal respect you would give to a paying, 9-5 job.
Have your own work-station and declare it out of bounds for dirty hands. Prepare all your work materials and gadgets and arrange them in a professional way, so that when you start work in the morning, you won't feel like you're still at home.
4) SCHEDULE YOUR OWN "MEETING"
With no one but yourself to answer to, it is easy to fall onto the slack-wagon. 5 minutes work followed by half an hour break, yes?
Well, goodbye to that! Set realistic goal and achieve it. Say, after two hours of productive work, have a "meeting" with your kids, see how they're coping with their plus and minus, if their arms are still intact, and most importantly, give them a kiss. Don't attempt to wrap up the day's work that quick, however tempting it might be after seeing your kids' cheeky little grin.
5) RELAX, BURN FAT
More time spent at home does not necessarily mean Moms will have the motivation to hit the gym. Fret not. Incorporate simple exercises into your routine, such as chair-swivel, 5-minute boxing (extremely good for releasing stress), walking on tip-toes, and tummy tuck-in.
These simple exercises not only ensure you stay in shape (and feel happy about it), they also clear your mind and make way for productivity.
6) WORK-LIFE BALANCE
That's right, the most important part of working-at-home, is to make it count. What's the point of having all the extra time and money if you are not enjoying it?
See your life in a different light. Know that being able to earn some income while following each step of your kids' growing up is a magnificent opportunity. Love your life.
