Poetry: Complaining

by Linda Ann Nickerson

NO PICNIC
Five Haikus on Paying Dues

Legal holiday.
Fuel prices skyrocket;
Barbecue at home.

Drivers bellyache,
Whining as the dials spin
On the special day.

Do we remember
Sacrifices made for us
On so many shores?

Warning light flashes;
Time to fill the tank again.
The picnic's over.

Caution, complainers.
Nothing worthwhile can be cheap.
Freedom fueled by heart.
