We know that with teens there are some moments where we wonder if we've picked the right or wrong fight.
Let's talk about a teen's lack of wanting" to clean their bedroom, our need to have it cleaned, and on a daily basis is it really important?
Yes, we want the room cleaned daily. But really is it worth fighting about? No! the stress you put yourself under is not worth the worry, nor grey hairs.
Oh I am not saying that your teen's room should never be cleaned. But set some guidelines.
1. Communicate with your teen the new "rule" on cleaning the room
2. Plan whether it would be cleaned on a weekly or bi-weekly basis
2. Establish the day for which the room is expected to be cleaned
3. This includes under the bed,the closet, and changing the linen
4. Close the bedroom door if it's really a bother to you; you will get overit
5. If tonight your teen wants to go out and this was the week the room was to be cleaned, wow you got him. "Yes, you can go as soon as the room is cleaned" or No, the room was expected to be cleaned 2 days ago
6. Besure to reward with positive words or extended curfew when his/her room is cleaned
and finally STICK TO YOUR PART! AND WATCH THE DIFFERENCE
You will notice a difference, as I did, with your teen. Especially if you say no and way a few time. :)
