Books affect children in many different ways. For some children, when they read a book, it takes them to a whole new world. A world where they can use their imaginations and pretend to be whoever the main character in the story is. My little brother loves to read mystery's. He likes to try to solve the mystery before he can finish the book, but in his mind he is thinking like a detective. Did I mention that he is fifteen years old. No matter what age you are, you are still going to use that imagination of yours, at some point in time.
Reading books provides such an active role to a young child's imagination. If you sit back and think about it, teachers teach our children in school with none other than books. If one starts reading to their child at a very young age, studies show that they will be smarter than children who do not get read to at all. When I was in school I could sit and read for hours. I still love to read when I have free time.
A good way to get your child interested in books, is by taking to your public library. There are so many books to choose from, your child is sure to find a good one that suits his needs. Most librarians will gladly help you if you need assistance. Librarians and teachers realize the affect books have on children. They are there to help when ever necessary.
When I had my daughter I started reading to her the day she was born. Nothing major, just little nursery rhymes. She will be three in October. Now she has more books than I can count. Every night she sets in my lap and I read her a bed time story. Think about it with me, something that can actually make a two and a half year old sit still for about twenty minutes. I started reading to her the day she was born because one study showed that a infants brain develops more in the first two years of their lives, than any other time. Now my daughter has a very active imagination. She can interact with me while I'm reading to her now. She loves for you to read to her. I love the fact that she wants to be read to.
In closing, books can be the key to your child's future if you let them. Books can teach children almost anything this day and time. Children can learn their colors, shapes, ABC's, how to count, and much much more. It helps their minds stay sharp and ready for anything. Books are really good for infants and toddlers because as I have mentioned earlier, it helps develop their imaginations. Take time read to your children.
