A leader knows how to listen. You should know how to listen for suggestions from your members. You should empathize with the whole crew. You should be open on the fact that you are still a director in progress and that you may not personally know everything that your actors may know.
BE AN ACTOR
You cannot motivate your actors if you yourself cannot act. Many directors have also been actors in plays. It is during the process of involving themselves in theatrical plays that directors develop the passion for this career and live it by heart to make them suited for the job.
During the time that you had been on stage acting, you should internalize whatever your role is.
