Who are the happiest, most carefree individuals you have ever encountered in life? For me they have been the intellectually challenged. Those I refer to as our angels in life here to teach us what life, love, innocence and the true appreciation of all that is around us, is really all about.
Much like children, every day is new and fresh. Hurts are easily forgiven and forgotten. Every new flower encountered becomes the first one they have ever seen. Every hug as meaningful as the last, or the next. They live in the moment. They hold no memory of the past,no expectations for the future, no regrets, and no grudges. Should they be hurt they cry unabashedly, but more often than not, then smile and laugh and truly enjoy the world in which they live.
The bible tells us Jesus said we must be like little children and I have often wondered if many intelligent people truly understand the meaning of that passage or know how to implement it in their lives.
I consider myself to be of reasonable intelligence. In fact I would be more than willing to acknowledge an insatiable thirst for knowledge and answers to many age old questions life has never quite been able to answer for anyone, myself included.
I can easily frustrate myself in that quest for understanding life so much, that I can forget what is really important in life, what may be the cornerstone to our existence and the pathway to our everlasting joy and happiness and that is simply LOVE. Pure, unfettered love for everyone, everything and all that is in the world around us.
Imagine, if you will, waking every day to discover the most beautiful sunrise you can remember. Imagine every evening seeing the most beautiful sunset ever. Imagine the joy of watching a flower unfold before your eyes for the first time over and over again. Imagine the joy and warmth of a hug with someone who completely trusts and loves you. Imagine!
If we lived in a world where knowledge of hate, war, sadness, disloyalty, betrayal and all other negatives in life that weigh so heavy on our hearts throughout life did not exist, would we not live a blissful and peaceful existence?
Is ignorance bliss? I thought for sure that was a rhetorical question. How could it not be? And if ignorant to the realities of life, how would you know?
I am pretty sure the intellectually challenged do not understand our stresses, worries and concerns and more than we could possibly understand the total bliss in their ignorance of the realities of life.
We've often heard the saying: "What you don't know can't hurt you"! I must admit I wholeheartedly agree and so must conclude that ignorance truly must be bliss!
