Public transportation should be free to anyone in the United States for several reasons. First it would be a great incentive for people living in large cities to use public transportation instead of driving to work. This would cut down on the national usage of gas and might even help to drive down the astronomical prices the consumer is now paying for a gallon of gas.
Second if public transportation were free, it would allow truckers to use the interstates with less time spent sitting in traffic jams attempting to make deliveries on time. This also would help to bring prices back down to reasonable rates. At this moment the average cost of diesel fuel is $4.70.9 per gallon that price is being passed onto the consumer as is the cost of moving the freight wherever it has to go. Think about this logically every time the cost of diesel fuel goes up so do the prices the consumer pays. It is a vicious cycle especially right now. The cars that are bought, the gas that is bought, clothes, shoes, the list is endless. With out trucks nothing will move and the costs will go up even further.
Third if public transportation were there would be less smog in cities all over the United States. Los Angles, California has public transportation but it is not free. The smog out there is horrendous, it is like a dark gray rail cloud that just sits there above the San Bernadina Mountains. What a great incentive for Los Angles residents to use their public transportation, clean air. If the public transportation were free people might be more inclined to use it in Los Angles, it would do away with traffic jams with all those fumes from trucks and cars running attempting to get from point a to point b. Sitting in a traffic jam for hours not minutes is a bad experience to begin with and in Los Angles it is an everyday occurrence, a part of life or a huge price for living there.
Fourth if public transportation were free it would aid in cleaning up our environment. There would be less vehicles on the road to pollute the air, no clouds over our major cities and people having to breathe in these pollutants.
Fifth free public transportation could save people in large cities thousands of dollars a year. People would get more exercise walking to bus stops or subways, this could do away with obesity which has become a large problem in this country.
There are even more reasons for free public transportation than stated here but the bottom line is that it could solve a great deal of the problems this country is facing in the twenty first century.
