It is not always easy to make the choice to be a true follower of God. The transition from worldly living to a follower of Christ is just as sacrificial and perilous today as it was in the times of old. Although we do not physically face the same persecutions today, we often face spiritual persecutions and even discrimination because of our beliefs. In our quest for spiritual renewal, new concepts, and new beliefs, our reactions to common matters will often conflict with the norms in our current society. Unlike the self-help/ how-to books, that give a systematic guideline to overcome our tribulations, this is not the same kind of guidebook. This book is an intimate self-proclaimed testimony that I wanted to present to help other people who may be struggling with acceptance and submission in their newfound and under developed relationship with God.
Life is a continuous cycle of unpredictable pitfalls. It is perhaps a negative truism from which many can escape by understanding the living examples experienced by others. I remember when I was eight years old I disobediently watched a movie about a famous jazz singer, Billie Holiday. She lived a life typical of most musicians of this age despite her status as female and African American in a strongly prejudicial society. Despite her professional success, she also had a personal battle with drugs that seemingly destroyed her claim to fame. I was shocked and scared out of every using drugs because of the vivid images used in her movie. I thought that any body that used drugs would die the same way Billie Holiday died. I wish there was a movie now that would have scared me away from more things in this world.
A book is readily available to most people that can tell us the vivid truth of the consequences of sin is the Bible. It has a descriptive list of sins to avoid as well as a prophetic outline of the events to come. Yet many people do not have a conscious reception to the consequences of sin. Most people avoid cardinal sins such as stealing and murder to avoid punishment to the law above its offense to God. The Bible teaches us that no sin is greater than another is but our legal system teaches us exactly the opposite.
Some sins are punishable by death while others are given six months or even probation. Some sins such as adultery are not even acknowledged in our legal systems as crimes merely merit in granting divorce. This is one of the main reasons that I wanted to let others know that every sin has a consequence
