Zam Zam water edges back before Islam was completed, during the teachings of the current prophet, Prophet Ibrahim a.s. The origins of Zam Zam water and how it came about was actually from Siti Hajar, wife of Prophet Ibrahim a.s, in search for nourishment for her child, Ismail, and herself when their ration had finished. Since the place which she was left alone by her husband under the command of Allah s.w.t, was a barren wasteland, it was impossible to find any neither food nor water.

Determined to find some nourishment for their survival, Siti Hajar unknowingly crossed the desert land from Safar to Marwah for seven times. At her last round, Marwah, the Angel Jibrail (Gabriel) appeared and stood beside Ismail. Calling her name twice, Siti Hajar finally turned and watched as fresh water burst from where Angel Jibrail had dug with his foot.

Upon seeing the miracle, Siti Hajar rushed to her son's side as she cupped the water in her hands. "Tazummumi Zummi Zummi," those were the words that she had uttered as she prayed her appreciation to Allah s.w.t. The meaning of the words meant "to collect". And thus from hence on, the water that burst from the spring is named as Zam Zam water and the spring named as Zam Zam Well.

Due to Zam Zam Well, the surrounding area flourishes and what previously once was a barren wasteland became flourished busy city of Mecca today. The capability of the well to supply huge amount of water without drying up each year puzzles researches and scientists.

However to Muslims, it is not surprising as it was stated in the Quran that the well will continue to provide water to millions of people until the Day of The Judgement nears. Zam Zam water has also known to cure many illnesses and a replacement for food as stated in many Hadiths Rusulullah.

Before drinking the water, the Muslim must read the prayers, "Allahumma innii asaluka ilmanna fi'au warizqau wa'asiau wasyifaan min'kulli daai", and believe in Allah s.w.t to cure the illness from his body. The verses meant; pray to Allah. s.w.t to grant us knowledge and wisedom, widen the space of our earnings be in monetary, food or water and grant us great health and cure of any illness we are having.

Also taken from the Hadiths Rasulullah, it is said that Prophet Muhammad s.w.s have once healed a patient running of high fever with just a sprinkle of Zam Zam water which he had rationed in his water skin onto the patient's forehead. Miraculously, the patient recovered a few minutes after that.

Modern day scientists who were skeptical towards this miracle water did several tests on it. Their research had come up with several discoveries regarding the miracle water. Minerals such as sodium, calcium, potassium, magnesium, sulphur, nitrates and phosphates were found.

What was more astonishing was the presence of fluoride in the Zam Zam water. As the normal occurance, only treated water contains fluoride to enable people to drink it safely. This is because fluoride acts as a germicide and stops bacteria and algae from growing.

Thus, the Zam Zam water once again proves that there are miracles in the world.
