The role of the media in politics

Do you remember the quote "Just the facts Ma'am, just the facts."? Well that is what the media is supposed to give us, just the facts. But the recent elections of 2008 have proved the media is taking sides. On a daily basis we see constant biased reporting. We have three major players thus far, John McCain, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama and CNN and other news stations have clearly picked their candidate.

All you have to do is watch the news and watch what they report about any of the candidates and then research what they tell you on your own. I guarantee you will find half truths, exaggerated facts and flat out lies. I would be embarrassed to be in the media in 2008.

Everyone (and I mean the media and regular people), keep talking about the division of the Democratic Party. You have to ask yourself, why? Well the answer is simple, the news reporters have all picked a side (mostly for Obama) and they are promoting him daily. One quick example I saw on the news: Obama raised $20 mill, Hillary in debt and John McCain sadly behind and doesn't have a shot. What is that, you have to ask? Why can't they just report what they each raised and then report Hillary behind and then report what McCain needs to do, but all they want you to hear is Obama raised more so it is obvious he is going to win.

I don't care who you vote for, but when the average person sees this (and they do see it) people get enraged that their candidate is getting bashed. So the division we are all frustrated about is being pushed on us but the media. Until the people complain to the media and demand they stop this we will continue to see this kind of biased reporting. And until the Democratic Party demands they stop, it will continue. I did see Hillary Clinton point out in a debate that they always seemed to ask her questions first and the audience booed her (why you have to ask) and the people asking the questions just shrugged it off and still didn't answer her question.

Well you know what, I am a mother of a mixed race child and if my son or grandchildren ever call me a typical white woman' I will be hurt and offended. And it was that comment of his that I left supporting that man. I noticed how no one called Obama a racist when he said that about his grandmother (why because she is white and can take it) so you have to ask yourself why (yet again) about the way the media is reporting the news. It is this constant asking why that is causing these problems with Democrats and Republicans. So, if all this backfires on Obama and the media they will have no one to blame but themselves, but they won't. We will get bombarded with how the American people are still racist.

So yes, the media has a role in politics good or bad. They help decide what and how we see the news and they have a responsibility that has been seriously lacking this year. I love this year's excitement for the elections and I wish they would report the news the way it is and not the way they think we need to see it. Facts are facts, good and bad.
