A Dogs Best Friend
Born into a family that treated me bad
I was only a puppy and they were all I had
After beating me badly, they threw me out on the street
I rummaged through bin bags for food to eat
Fearing all strangers, I kept out of the way
This was my life day after day
Until one day it changed, I met someone new
I looked at her face and knew she was true
She stood in the rain for hours on end
Calling, cajoling me "come on I will be your friend"
I slowly walked over, my need for love strong
She picked me up gently and in her arms we did bond
And so began friendship and trust, strong and true
My happiness and love for this girl just grew
Until I could no longer be there by her side
Because heaven had called me, it was time to say goodbye
But although she cannot see me, I am still there by her side
Always watching over her until it is her time
Then I will be waiting and we will be together again
Because she truly was to me, and is a dogs best friend.

my friend by day,
