Surviving the economic crunch: What can you do?

and you will survive without some things you might want. Also, if you are dedicated to keeping to your budget, you likely will find that you eventually have a little bit of extra money. If you find you don't have enough to complete the above, you may have to consider what you are spending money on each month. You may need to eliminate cable, get a more limited cell phone plan, or even a more gas-efficient car. Again, don't be discouraged. Keep yourself committed, and keep working towards improving your situation. If you can afford it, consider pursuing some form of higher education, whether its a trade school, community college, or graduate degree. The cost of gaining more education will be well worth it when you are able to find a better-paying, and more rewarding job.

Take everything in stride. Try to find benefits in the actions you have to take. If you have to get rid of cable, consider it a chance to start reading, or writing, or spending time with friends and family. If you have to eliminate your cell phone, consider it a chance to seek people in person, or to have some more privacy : )

These are by no means the only bits of advice for riding out difficult economic times. And they are also not meant to make light of serious situations that do sometimes arise. If you are in need of serious assistance, seek help - there are countless agencies and organizations that exist to help people who are struggling financially. Try to get connected with an organization like this, and keep looking forward - things will improve eventually, it is the natural pattern of life.
