I've had two encounters with celebrities on the same night. One was more of a celebrity sighting, the other meeting was quite embarrassing.
My best friend and I are opposite as night and day. Michelle is outgoing, outspoken, opinionated, and sometimes uncomfortable to be around, somewhat insecure and a single mom of a young son.
I am reserved, married with two small children, one boy, and one girl.
Michelle bought tickets to the Cavaliers vs. Lakers' game one summer. We went to the mall to find the perfect outfits.
Michelle noticed a biracial couple walking hand in hand. "I hate to see a black man with a white woman," she bellowed. She kept on talking becoming louder. "He can do better. I could hook him up with Her or She. I am thoroughly disgusted," she said shaking her head to show her disapproval.
I felt so bad for the couple I asked rather loudly, "Do you want him?
"What," Michelle asked.
I said again, "Do you want him? If not what does it matter to you!"
She dropped me at home. It was decided that I would drive to the game. We hurriedly through on our new duds and headed downtown early to get a decent parking space.
The place was packed. Michelle scowled at mix raced couples, judged every girl there that she thought was better looking than she and flirted obnoxiously with any black male in sight.
We found our seats before she spotted Brian McKnight. She grabbed my hand dragging me closely behind her and through herself at him.
Mortified I couldn't mutter a hello.
A very attractive white lady walked by, "Hi, Brian Mcknight. It's nice to meet you, can I have your autograph," she asked excitedly.
Mr. Mcknight signed his name twice that night, "To a very pretty girl," to the white lady and mine simply said, "To a beautiful lady inside and out."
Michelle sat sullen the rest of the game.
A very attractive white man tall and built like an athlete sat beside me. His smile was infectious. I nudged Michelle and begged her to return to the concession stand with me.
Upon our return I made sure that the two would be seated together. That night after the game, they exchanged numbers as we were leaving. Brian Mcknight was within view. He approached Michelle shaking his head in disgust, "You can do better," he said laughing as he walked away.
The night was too young to end. We headed to the latest hot night club the Mirage. There we ran into Gerald Lavert. He was seated VIP and had black, white and otherwise in his entourage.
Michelle didn't utter a sound.
