For my grandma
This is for you Grandma Coleman,
I'm thinking of you again,
especially of when I was little,
and you were one of my best friends.
You taught me many things,
just like a grandma could,
how to cook and clean,
and how hard to work you would.
You were a strong woman,
raising five strong boys,
one of them being my dad,
I hope I can fit your poise.
Beautiful you were,
till the day you died,
and even then your beauty,
still you could not hide.
I wasn't around much,
when your life started to change,
after you broke your leg,
depression for you started to rage.
You couldn't cook or clean,
as much as you used to do,
you still had good friends,
but always had to come to you.
There was that day,
that I almost died,
and I believe I didn't,
because of you by my side.
It's sad how it ended,
and how dad watched you go,
but as long as you're still watching,
in memory of you I'll continue to grow.
