My son Dustin is a 8 year old little boy who is developmentally delayed due to circumstances of his birth. He is very smart just at the maturity of someone 3 years younger, so with this story keep this in mind.
We were at my mother's one day and she has false teeth, well Dustin was making her open her mouth so he could inspect her teeth. She had just gotten them the year before and they still don't fit right and Dustin was inspecting them and says yup they are too big grandma your right. Well that got her laughing and then one set started to fall out and Dustin tried to catch them. Well of course they were slippery from being in her mouth and he tried to pick them up and take care of them for her and almost dropped them. He finally got them picked up and was going to take off with them. She says to Dustin how would you like to wear false teeth and he gets a big smile on his face and says "Grandma can I wear yours to see if they will fit?" She says no that's gross and the next thing you know he pops the top half in his mouth and says "how do I look?"
It was disgusting but he was having a blast. After that I made him take them out and he got mad like so many children do when they are having fun and mom makes them stop. Well for a week after that he kept asking when we went over there if he could wear her teeth. I shudder when I think of this. At the time it was funny because the look on his face was priceless. His saying "See, look they fit" with a big grin on his little face. He's real little, only weighing about 35 pounds at the time and being the size of a 4 year old, just makes things like that funny. He enjoys making people laugh. So far since he has started school his teachers have all said he is their class clown.
I'm not pregnant and don't intend to be again and Dustin goes to school and tells his class "my mommy is having a baby". So his teacher writes me a note asking about this and if I am she can help me to help him understand things about it. I wrote her back and said "I don't know where Dustin got this idea but I am not pregnant and don't intend to be." She says that he was very adamant that I was having a baby. So I told her I would have a discussion with him about it. Well I did and boy did I ask for it.
I says to Dustin "why do you think mommy is having a baby?" He says "because I want you to. I want a little sister." So then I had to explain to Dustin that mommy was not going to have any more babies just him. Then he says "but I want a sister and your gonna have a baby" I told him that's not how it works. Then I left it at that. Kids can say and do the darnedest things. Dustin has come up with so many funny things I think I should write a journal about his crazy and silly antics. He is what makes my days brighter and worth getting out of bed for.
