Mayan calendar predictions for December 21, 2012 have a number of people very much on edge. According to archeology, the Mayan civilization was highly advanced and their calendar was even more precise than our own. However, it ends December 21, 2012 and people want to know why.
Many cultures around the world have predicted doom for this precise date and with the year 2012 being so close, dooms day scenarios are popping up all around. One of particular interest which many associate with the Mayans is the galactic alignment taking place in the universe which is said to have the potential to change our lives forever.
Basically, the sun and planets are lining up with the center of the Milky Way and apparently this galactic alignment could cause major disturbances on the earth such as mega-earthquakes, volcano eruptions, tsunamis, and hurricanes. These events are predicted to be frequent and extremely intense.
The Mayans were obsessed with time keeping and they made exact predictions of events that happened several hundred years into the future. But why did they end their calendar on a date that coincides with so many other end time prophecies?
The Mayan Long Count calendar, which in all probability was inherited from other Meso-American cultures, had a refined system where events could be recorded in linear time. But the Mayans suffered foreign invasion, overpopulation, disease and environmental disaster. The truth could very well be that they simply couldn't get around to finishing it.
New Age groups believe its end signifies the end of the world by cataclysmic events and the entrance into a new age. But many of the experts who study the Mayans believe this theory to be a serious misinterpretation. Still, as we near the year 2012 we are seeing these disturbing events taking place in the universe.
There are a variety of theories and opinions as to what may happen. A number of dooms day enthusiasts are shouting, "Run for the hills! Go to your safe place!" But common sense dictates that if everything happens the way they say it will there will be no safe place anywhere on earth. No one could survive the kind of events they're describing.
Christians believe the End Times described by Jesus Christ is quickly approaching and that we are on the verge of the Great Tribulation and the Antichrist.
"For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning
