How many ways can racism be discussed? First, from the eyes of one living through it's effects directly. Second, from the viewpoint of one witnessing the destruction it can cause. Maybe from the hero who believes they are destined to cure it. Perhaps, by one blind sided by a seemingly unimportant issue simply by living out his life. One viewpoint that is not often discussed comes from the eyes of the racist themselves. The blight racism causes humanity cannot be cured until all aspects of it are understood. From the eyes of the those held victim by bigotry, only one side of the problem may present itself. That being the fault of those who commit the injustice. Assumptions can be made that these responsible for wrongs are simply hateful inhuman monsters. While instances of this are absolutely true, some cases can be attributed to ignorance.
Georgia was named for the state she grew up in. At age seventy two she was still running circles around the younger employees of the fast food restaurant that employed her. A twenty something young man, Lane befriended her during his employment there. Georgia reminded Lane of his grandmother, so anytime she requested assistance Lane was the first to oblige. The became close friends at work, as close as a seventy year old and a young whippersnapper could be anyway.
Lane came to work one morning looking like he had spent all night drinking. His pale white complexion was tainted by dark circles beneath his bloodshot eyes. He was obviously wearing the same clothes had the day before, and his hair had not seen a comb for at least twenty four hours. However, his disheveled appearance could not darken the smile on his face or the look of pride in his eyes. Early that morning Lane had become the uncle of a stout little boy named Eddy. All morning his co-workers swelled his pride by oooing and awing over the pictures of his handsome little nephew. All but one person, when his friend Georgia saw the little abomination she curled her lips and put on the best smile she could muster and chuckled. She then quickly shuffled away pretending to be busy, and hollering about people not doing their jobs. Lane was a bit confused by this reaction, but gave it no further thought as the rest of the crew continued to comment on how adorable his nephew was.
One morning some weeks, later Georgia and Lane were taking their morning cigarette break when a new employee arrived. A young black girl named Sharon. "I can't stand that little n*r" Georgia blurted
