Poetry: Feeling lost

Grandma found you face down
in your flooded Sepulveda bachelor
leaning over your bed with wrists bleeding
into the water that was up to your knees
old pictures and manuscripts
floating around you like a Victorian painting

I remember your crystal necklace
always hanging from a strip of leather
to the left of your chest
to keep my head out of bad places, you said
as you stood in my bathtub and placed
stickers of angels on the bathroom ceiling
to keep my floods away

you were always hidden in between
past lives and twined minds
convinced you were being condemned
for old sins
leaving you forever bound to words
that bled from yellowing pages
to liquefy with the rest of you

It is always the sound of water that wakes
me from my sleep
it's getting hard for me to stay
I have knelt down too long to believe
in eternal light that burns and yearns
so bright

and on nights like this
someone might have to find me
head down with drowning regret
because the angels are gone
