Wishes Do Come True

When she'd wished as a child,
Her Mama would nod wisely and smile.
Then Mama would look her in the eye,
And softly whisper an old lullaby.

"Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight."

Mama saw no point to wishing on a star,
Unless you were prepared to go far.
In making all your wishes come true,
"That job", she said, "is up to you".

Over the years as she grew up,
Through Barbie dolls and wild make up.
She'd share her dreams of times to come,
And Mama would softly start to hum.

"Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight."

When it came time to leave the nest,
Mama pulled her to her breast.
Her little girl had a woman become,
And Mama softly started to hum.

"Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight."

The years passed by and she worked hard,
To win her dreams she'd do her part.
And whenever she felt beaten by the grind,
Her mother's words would come to mind.

"Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight."

And then one day her mama called,
And asked her if she recalled.
The advice she'd given her a long time past,
And did her wishes all come at last?

For I've been thinking it's time to go,
But I just want you to know.
That wishes really do come true,
For I wished too and God gave me you.

"Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight."
