If you are looking for a pet, and your not quite sure how much time, and effort you have to give, go with a fish. Or a couple of them. These low maintenance creatures are fun and exciting to watch. They don't require walking or poop scooping. Just a few flakes of food a day and you are good to go.
There are many kinds of fish from small to big. They come in all colors. Most of them get along with other fish, but there are a few exceptions. They can be fresh water or salt water.
If you go to your local pet store you will see there are many styles of fish tanks. From something as simple as a bowl to something spectacular that would have to be well kept.Depending on your time constraints and motivation you can choose the tank that is right for you.
There are many plants and stones you can get to decorate your new found friends world. There are plastic plants or real ones. Then there is fake coral. Plastic treasure chests, scuba divers, and so much more. Or you can just make it simple with just some rocks in the bottom. Your fish can live fancy or just simple.
It is easier to pick a fish then a larger animal such as a dog that requires hours of care a day. Plus you are less likely to have a allergy to your fish, though not impossible. The best thing about fish is that they always seem to cheer you up when you have had a bad day. You can just watch them as they carelessly swim around. Nothing much important, except the food.
You can watch as they play and swim around in the water. If you work with them you can teach them simple tricks, depending on the fish. Most of all you can just enjoy their simple world. The way they seem to pass the day with no worries. We live in a busy world. Sometimes it is just nice to slow down and enjoy something simple.
Giving a fish to a small child can also be a way to teach responsibility. It can help them develop the skills needed to take care of more complicated pets as they grow older. With a fish it is simple learning to care for pets while not overwhelming them with too much responsibility all at once.
Fish are fun and simple to own. They do not bark, meow, or squawk. They are all the fun with not nearly as much mess. Having four dogs I would much rather trade for a few fish some days, but in the end our pets make it worth it. So if you are looking for a place to start. You can't go wrong with a fish. Unless you get it at a carnival. They seem to die two days later.
So take a Chance and stop in to your pet store. Look at the amazing tanks they have and watch the fish. It can be beautiful.
