Video games first came around in 1972 with the release of the Magnavox Odyssey, a relatively simple version of the console system that was powered by batteries. When Odyssey was picked up by Nintendo and redistributed in Japan in 1975, it sparked a revolution that would spawn seven generations of consoles and countless upgraded versions of computers. However, when you think about giving a title such as "the best video game ever", it would be more appropriate to at least give credit to consoles and computers individually. Thereby, listed here, you will see my top game from each console system starting with the Nintendo Entertainment System as well as a mini review of the game and its score as it is scored on gamespot.com.
NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM (NES)
1. Super Mario Brothers - It should be much of a surprise to anyone that the very first game to come out on the console I consider to be the best and why not? Super Mario Brothers was the front runner of the Nintendo company and the start of one of the longest running series for console games. Having sold 40.2 million copies worldwide, its easy to see why this game is simply the best. The first platform game to be released of its kind, Super Mario Brothers followed the adventures of Mario Mario and his brother Luigi Mario as they run across the Mushroom Kingdom in hopes of rescuing the fair Princess Peach from the evil King Koopa, Bowser. Having just the right amount of control, players guide Mario across the side-scrolling world, jumping on Goombas and Koopas, getting fire flowers and power stars to aid in their quest to reach the castle and attempt to rescue the princess. An instant classic, this game was a stand-alone or game bundled with the console, a gun zapper and the game duck-hunt. This game is also available on the Wii system through the virtual shop. Score: 8.9

SEGA GENESIS
1. Sonic The Hedgehog - In 1987, the console wars broke out between Nintendo and Sega. Sega, having failed to profitably sell their Master System successfully in the USA and Japan, sought to regain a handhold by releasing the Sega Genesis system to consumers. To combat the rising popularity of Nintendo's Mario, Sega released the game Sonic the Hedgehog. Featuring a blue hedgehog with red sneakers and a speed that humans would love to have, Sonic the Hedgehog was a side-scrolling platform game similar to the original Super Mario Brothers, with a few exceptions.
