Mary Malone was a very young enthusiastic piano player who would love to entertain all who knew her. One fine day she had just finished her music lessons for the day and packed up her bags and this is where it all began.
On arriving home she received a call from her mothers friend Josephine Cox to ask if she would come and play at a concert being held in the old theater along the road. On thinking this was a bit sudden Mary decided to decline. Later that evening she was thinking again whilst lying in her bed and there she began to dream.
How wonderful it would be to hear all the songs she had played to herself being played to a huge audience. The sound of the piano keys playing gentle ballads and the sound of applauding in the crowd woke her up so then she decided to accept.
Mary called Josephine the next morning and they made arrangements on how to get to the theater and what songs to play. Amongst the songs were some she had written herself. They both practiced and practiced until they could play no more. The date for the show was August 01.
Here it was, the big day and all the audience awaited in silence to see what they would hear. Mary was very nervous with bright lights, faces peering from the crowd and now she was to perform on a piano that was far bigger than her own. The name of the song she played was "Love's a Merry Dream".
When she was done the applause she received echoed through the village and everyone said they had never heard anyone play like this before. The greetings in the street went on for weeks until one day a dark young man by the name of Lawrence came across Josephine and asked her to play the same song again.
She played it over and over and they both sang as she played. Being a young lady of 18 years Lawrence invited Mary to meet a friend. His name was Bobby the Banjo man. Bobby also had a record company which Mary knew nothing of. Bobby had been playing since the age of 5 years and had never stopped since. He played to his mother, father, brothers and sisters and his audience just grew and grew.
As it turned out with such a small time show to start with Mary ended up marrying Lawrence, getting a record contract with Bobby, playing at numerous shows around the country and living happily ever after with her family of 2 children.
The moral of the story above is that no matter how small the offer take it up as you never know where you'll be in 20 years to come.
