What day is the true Sabbath day? This very question has been a constant topic for centuries. Should it be Saturday? Should it be Sunday? If a final determination were to be made, then various key points should be considered and addressed prior to committing to any given day as the true Sabbath day.
The first point to consider would be that "observing the Sabbath (day of rest or religious worship)" is not solely practiced by religious groups of the Christian Faith. As a result, the process of assigning a specific day of the week for the masses would become more complex than simply following the various verses written on the Bible.
Second, by observing the numerous religions (practiced by the masses) that observe the Sabbath, the process of assigning a specific day for the observance the Sabbath would become directly dependent on the specific religion being practiced. For instance, the Buddhist Sabbath occurs every seven to eight days in accordance with the phases of the moon. The Jewish Sabbath is observed from Friday (sundown) until Saturday (night). The Islamic Sabbath, also known as Friday Prayer, is observed every Friday after noon time. Religions following the Christian and/or Catholic faith designate either Saturday or Sunday for the observance of the Sabbath.
Third, also taken into consideration should be the various religious paths that observe the Sabbath using different time intervals such as the First Day Sabbath, The Seventh Day Sabbath and the Monthly Sabbath, to name a few. An example of such interval observances are the Wiccan Sabbaths, which are observed eight times throughout the year.
To merely suggest that the Bible is the sole answer for the determination of a specific day, for the observation of the Sabbath, presents a solution that may be interpreted as biased in nature and not thoroughly thought out. Such a suggestion might also be viewed as disrespectful and imposing by anyone not practicing the same spiritual path. Adhering to one Holy Book instead of the other, for the specific day of observation, might also suggest that only one religious belief and/or practice is true and correct, while others are not.
In view of the issues presented, it may appear that the best answer to this very old and much debated question may indeed rest in our ability, as humans, to accept that we all have the right to practice our religious beliefs as we understand them; in accordance with our chosen religious affiliation.
