Movie reviews: Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle

Harold and Kumar Get The Munchies is a comedy/adventure film which was released in the UK on 4th March 2005. The film was directed by Danny Leiner and written by Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg. Harold and Kumar Get The Munchies has a BBFC rating of 15 because of the use of strong language, sexual content, drug abuse and crude humour.

As the name of the film suggests Harold and Kumar Gets The Munchies is about two friends named Harold Lee (John Cho) and Kumar Patel (Cal Penn) who are a pair of Dope smoking students. One Friday night the both of them smoke joint after joint and get extremely stoned whilst watching TV. They get the munchies and decide that they want to go to KFC; then they see a fast food advertisement on TV which is for White Castle and then they decide that White Castle is where they want to go to instead of KFC. They get ready to go on a trip to a nearby White Castle and when they get there they discover that it is now a Burger Shack, so they set off on an adventure to another White Castle which is opened.

John Cho plays the part of Harold Lee brilliantly, I've actually watched a few films with John Cho in them before but he has only had really small parts so it was a nice to see him in this film as he had more of a central leading role. You might remember seeing John Cho in American Pie 1 and 2 where he made short appearances, he was the one who gave Stifler's Mom the name MILF. Whilst watching the film you get immediately get the impression that Harold Lee is a bit of a push over as he is easily intimidated and bullied by his work colleagues. I think that he was too scared to stand up for his self because he was rather vulnerable and Lee's acting portrayed this excellently and it was rather believable.

Again Cal Penn plays the part of Kumar Patel brilliantly as well, I've only ever watched one other film where he played a main character and that was an Wilder Party Liaison Officer. Kumar's character was the completely opposite of Harold's because Kumar was more laid back, didn't care about anything and what others thought of him. I got the impression that he only wanted to get stoned and didn't care about getting his medical degree and job as a doctor. I also thought that he bullied Harold into doing some things which he didn't want to do however as the film progresses you do realise that he is doing this for Harold's own good so as he stops letting people walk all over him.

The film was mainly focused on Harold and Kumar, but there were
