Where in Canada is the best kept secret for a vacation? I bet many of you would not know where this may be. Well, let me tell you it is NEWFOUNDLAND.
I know you have all heard of Newfoundland, but how many could honestly say they have ever been there. Well, I was in the same boat several years ago. I had heard of Newfoundland the island that seems to always be cold and snowy. Is this where I would really want to vacation to. I got out a map and decided that I should not judge this island with out experiencing it for myself.
I decided to fly to St. John and rent a car. Oh, my the awesomeness of the rock is amazing. Taking a trip out to see the whales was a must for me. I booked a trip out and this proved to be so amazing whales coming close to the boat, close enough to get awesome pictures. This boat trip even took us to see a rock the the puffins live on. The puffin is the bird of Newfoundland, he is so cute. An amazing bird if you ask me. He actually digs holes in the island to build a nest!
The scenery here is amazing each turn has something new to see. It may be a moose, or caribou or even a lynx. So many things to do. One night I stayed in a small motel. The owners were so nice, they made our dinner and then told us they had to go out for the evening but if we could listen for anyone else to come, check them in and help our self to what ever we wanted and they would see us in the morning. Wow, I could not believe that they would trust just anyone.
Having food allergies was not a problem, people made my food how ever I needed it made. Therefore I could enjoy the same kind of food that other people of the island eat. My favorite dish was cod tongues! Don't say gross until you try them, they are actually sweeter then scallops. Partridge berries grow on the island they are kinda like a cranberry and they too are to die for.
The most awesome part of the whole island is Gross Morn National park. I love it here. The hiking is just amazing. The people are great. The food super. Lots to do. This where I saw my first Newfoundland dog, his name was Jed, since then I have had two Newfoundland dogs of my own. I may not be able to live in Newfoundland, but having two of the dogs makes me feel like I am close to them. I moved to Ontario north, which reminded me of Newfoundland with all the rock.
So if you are looking for an awesome vacation spot this year why not give Newfoundland a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Yes it may cold in climate wise, but in friendliness it surpass all others. Enjoy..
