North Korea needs to be ignored.

Yes, ignore them, they depend on international aid to feed their starving population, and also to provide medical supplies. Whenever such aid is distributed, who gets the credit? Kim Jong Il of course. When yourself and your father have been credited for every major invention that you use in your country, it's pretty easy to believe that they are gods such as they are portrayed. Kim Jon Il has a theater background, while his father was in power, he was taking his hand at directing. Making horrible knock off movies of Japanese made movies, such as Godzilla', even kidnapping Japanese actors and forcing them to play roles in movies. He definitely knows how to use his talents learned before taking power to impress the North Korean masses. Ignoring them might be the best idea to handle the situation, how horrible and evil it may sound.

Now, yes, if the US were to stop sending as much aid and supplies to the country, the already famine ravished country will spiral deeper into the pit that it has dug itself in. It's a hard concept to want to support, and, really, you shouldn't ignore the cost of such a plan, the loss of human lives on a grander scale. The only way to change their situation though is through drastic and costly means. The North Korea problem is now so vast and unsolvable that it would take nothing short of a large internal uprising to de-thrown the current leaders in power. Instead, the US needs to adopt a different policy.

Instead of dealing directly with the North Koreans, which gives them the attention they crave, the US needs to focus on using the power of the South Koreans to resolve the issues between the two countries. Now, this isn't military power, this is the power of using someone who actually knows the culture to get the job done. Nobody knows how to really deal with the current regime that has control over North Korea, their technology is becoming ancient, the masses are brainwashed, and their leader gives track suit / big sun glasses wearers a bad name. Though, the world knows that North Korea is like a dead horse, no matter how much you beat it to try to get something done, its not going anywhere. The only solution is to let North Korea destroy itself from the inside out, let a revolution overthrow the regime and hope that they install a better leadership.

Until then, lets just give them the cold shoulder.
