'Round the petals were edges black
From ice and darkness through life's path.
The chilly air, no crystals pure,
Did reach the threshold of the door.
Inside, the heat did choke and dry-
But not the tears from my eyes.
Torment, torture, blood, and trouble,
Thoughts and emotions together muddled.
One by one, then two by two,
The rose did lose its petals new.
Sadness, darkness, discomfort, depression-
Through life blindly-distorted lessons.
Shame and anger, guilt and rage,
All but the rose did you engage.
What was left but petals few,
A bent green stem and thorns of you?
Completed tasks did feel undone
As words and ideas by you were shunned.
Then, this rose, when it did fall,
'Twas left behind the garden wall.
Lonely, alone, no matter together.
No rose did bloom, no succor nether.
The sun did shine, but shadows abound.
Still-darkness and ice did seep around.
But Alas! This thorny stem
Did choke no more, at once did mend!
The rain, the dew, did quench with care.
The sun then shone-no shadows there!
The petals! So lush, so red and pure,
Plump with passion, rich allure.
'Twas dark so long, and thus, who knew?
'Twas possible, this rose to bloom.
