Part-Time Home schooling: Education for the child & Knowledge for Parenting

When I was younger my wish was to be home schooled. My desire to learn was very intense. My mother was working from home because my parents owned a small business. My father was specialized in excavation and my mother was his Administrative assistant.

Unfortunately, the hope to be home schooled never took shape. My adoptive parents had pursued their education only completing Grade 3 in high school. Also, my parents were severely disconnected from the modern educational system. In the evenings I was left all by myself to do my homework.

My parents have no certifications. Yet, their financial and material lifestyles were not affected for they grew up wealthy. I was being raised and educated in three different sets of languages and cultures. I was a collage of Haitian, French Canadian, and English Canadian Irish descent. But, somehow I grew up thinking that my multi-cultural background was not a hurdle to my intellectual development and happiness. But, I was lucky enough to have found the courage to go forward to university. I attended Concordia and Laval University studying Political Science and Information Technology.

As an adult I decided to have two children. It became very important to meet the requirements for home schooling. I began very slowly to construct a working model. I constructed a workable plan which I activated within three months of my pregnancy with my first child. But, I also decided to remain a working parent. Therefore, my goal has always been to balance public or private institutional tutoring with part-time home schooling.

I have been working on my home schooling projects for the last ten years with my two boys. One child is presently seven and the other is ten years of age. The home schooling schema consists of three different stages. The first stage is when the child is embryonic. The second stage pertains from the age of zero to the age of seven years of age. The third and last stage is when the child is seven until he becomes a young adult. The last stage is broken down over three years periods until he attains adulthood and his independence.

When I begun this planning in order to make my thinking more systemic I referenced my plan. I sought out various books on the subject of home schooling. I joined numerous online organizations to streamline the project. The Internet became a powerful tool to construct a workable program. Also to make contacts to expose my ideas
