A New Beginning

In the next couple a months I'm going to be starting a new life. A life beyond that of one I can imagine. I'm graduating high school and going off to college. Since I was a freshman I just couldn't wait to get out of high school, and now that I'm a senior I realize how much I loved it and I would like to stay for just a little longer. Its weird to me how fast time has passed, I still remember being a freshman and walking into this big school feeling really small. Even more so I remember entering middle school, and feeling even smaller. Every since I was little, I always looked at the next big step as a big deal, like I'd be a lot more mature and wiser by the time I got to it. Now that I'm graduating, the last big step before I start my real life, I feel just as small as I did when I was in kindergarten.

It's going to be scary walking on that stage getting my diploma knowing that my high school career is over. It's like starting a new chapter in my life. Next year is going to be big for me. I'm attending Seton Hall University and I'm excited but yet scared at the same time. Even though I can't wait to go to college, it's not all going to be fun and games. I'm going for baseball, one of my true passions, and I have to try really hard, and put my all into it. Next year will be a challenge both academically and athletically. I'm going to have to remember to stay focused and work hard, but I can't forget to have fun. Seton Hall represents a lot of things to me, the end of my high school career and a new beginning. I'm really going to miss high school, but to tell you the truth I enjoyed every minute of it.
Beyond leaving high school, I'll be leaving a lot at home. For the first time ever, I'm going to have complete independence and responsibility. My mom won't be there to make me food, do my laundry or take care of me when I need it. Instead, I'll have to learn to fend for myself. My dad wont be there to support me at Seton Hall after baseball games, all I'll be able to rely on is a good luck phone call. Besides my family, I'll be leaving all my friends. The friends who I've known for the last 4 years or more won't be so close. All of our jokes and fun times will be a memory, and it will be a lot harder to create new ones. I'll be thrown into a school with new faces, kids with separate lives that I know nothing about. I'll have to pick between a few thousand people who are the friends that are right for me.
On the other hand, even though I'm leaving, and I'm reminiscent, I have a lot of things to look forward too. My new independence won't be so bad, for once I'll be able to come home as late as I want and keep MY room as dirty as I want. My new friends will be an escape for the same old same old, and I'll be able to expand my horizons. My new friends will teach me new things, open up my mind, and make me better.
All I'm saying is that I've got a lot that I'm going to miss and a lot to look forward to. My hometown has given me a lot of good times, and has been a great place for me to grow up. The next step is coming fast and soon, and even though I'm nervous, I know a lot of good things will come from it.
