Throughout my life and the many Fourth of July's I've experienced, one thing has stood out far above the fireworks, the parties and the friends and family ...the amazing food. My family has created it all, from your standard barbequed chicken to our homemade ice cream for dessert, but one Fourth of July night we hit the jackpot and we have never looked back. Each year my family and I anxiously look forward to Fourth of July when we get to cook out and make our wonderfully healthy, famous Bison Cheddar Burgers.
This simple recipe is not only healthier than your average beef hamburger, but it tastes amazing, is incredibly easy to cook and can even trick the most beef loving hamburger connoisseur. For about a quarter pound of Bison there are only 143 calories as opposed to the 210 you'll find in beef, 35% less cholesterol, 30% more protein, more vitamins and the taste will blow all of your guests away!
To get started, make sure you've purchased enough ground bison to please all of your guest with at least one quarter pound burger. Mix your bison, one egg per pound of bison, one cup of cheddar per pound of bison, a fourth cup diced onion per pound of bison, and a dash of pepper, salt and Worcestershire sauce per pound. Once all of your ingredients are well mixed, shape into quarter pound patties and cook at 375 degrees until the internal temperature reaches at least 155 degrees Fahrenheit. Serve on honey wheat buns with lettuce, tomato and olive oil mayo!
Celebrating our independence doesn't have to come at the expense of your family and friends health, or at the expense of wonderful tasting food. Not only will all of your guests enjoy your Fourth of July Bison Cheddar Burger, but they will also thank you for introducing their family to a whole new way to eat healthy.
