How to have the perfect Fourth of July barbecue

The spirit behind our national holiday, the Fourth of July, is best expressed through the American tradition of backyard barbecues. With family, friends, and some of the most irresistible summer foods, the barbecue is a time honored way to spend the lazy July 4th afternoon before the ever spectacular fireworks shows.

The right mixture of food, entertainment, and laughter can turn any Fourth of July celebration into a memorable summer event. Serving foods that are easy to eat and easy to clean up, such as grilled foods and pasta salads, lots of fruits and vegetables, as well as drinks served in disposable cups are perfect to keep both hosts and guests free to enjoy the company.

Light dishes and plenty of sweets to pick over will keep old and young family and guests circling the picnic tables and using red, white, and blue berries will also add patriot flair to many traditional recipes.

Good lighting and plenty of bug spray will also ensure comfortable guests during the late day fireworks display. Purchasing safe, smaller fireworks for a backyard show can also be a lot of fun in bigger yards and other decorations will also create a light and relaxing atmosphere well into the evening.

Take advantage of your natural landscaping and greenery to liven the scene and plant a few extra annuals around your barbecue areas to brighten any wilting flowers. Add outside trashcans and easily accessible restrooms, lots of water to drink, and responsible adult drinking to the recipe for a day of endless summer fun.

America was built on barbecues. Celebrating a Fourth of July barbecue is a great reminder that our nation's freedoms come in the smallest forms of happiness at the most highest prices and we should all enjoy them and honor them. Save a plate and make sure it gets delivered to your guests who had to work as well!
