Make Believe

Sometimes you have to pretend
That you can fly.
I hope it all works out with that other guy.
Sometimes I make believe that you're still mine;
I gotta have you home by a quarter to nine.
When I make believe,

I thought I'd found the Holy Grail,
You were something straight out of a fairy tale.
Once upon a time I fell in love with you,

Then you looked at me and said, "I love you, too."
Sand castles on the beach:
I made one for you, you made one for me.
I closed my eyes and went to sleep,
That's when you went away and shattered all my dreams.

Sometimes you have to pretend
That you can fly.

When I open our book and flip to the end,
I see "Happily Ever After", not "Just Friends".
Are we reading from the same page?

Imagination only gets you so far
That's what I realized as you turned to leave.
