The candidates in the US 2008 elections are missing a fantastic opportunity to connect with an entire industry that for some reason is ignored and regulated more than any other industry in the United States: the trucking industry. Not only do truckers vote they excercise their rights to speak and protest. With the soaring costs of diesel fuel you would think the candidates would show a little interest in helping the trucking industry after all they are the backbone of America. Where exactly do these candidates think their food, clothing, vehicles are most other items come from anyway? The railroad fairy?
The candidates appear to be more interested in foreign policy than domestic policy somehow it seems that it should be the reverse. Foreign policies especially concerning Mexicans need to be handled more effectively than they are. Do you know that the Mexican truck drivers have been coming over into the United States for years, their trucks are not always DOT regulated and some are very unsafe for American Roads? Some do not even want to come into the states and some do not understand English. Of coarse our brilliant DOT decided that if these people can identify what a sign means they can speak English. This is insane.
John McCain at least made a half hearted attempt to lower gas prices during the summer but what happens in the fall? Hillary Clinton tried to copy cat what Mr. McCain had said but she would say anything to get a vote. As for Mr. Obama he seems to be oblivious to gas prices, maybe he has stock in Exxon or Mobil. That is not the point people can not afford to pay these outrageous prices, it is the little guy that is taking all the lumps for these heavy weight candidates. There has been no call by any of the primary candidates to have Congress and Senate investigate this price gouging. When will it stop? When one of them is elected? I doubt that very seriously after all Exxon and Mobil are funding part of their campaigns even though that is not stated anywhere. They back senators and congressmen also to make sure there are no investigations.
It is time America woke up and began to see that we are not even we the people any longer, we vote these candidates in then we complain but do we do anything else no. Come on America lets look at the main issues here lets get the candidates to respond to the plight of the the trucking industry and all the other domestic issues that are facing our nation today. If we don't then someday in the not to far distant future we will be living under socialism and wondering what happened to we the people.
