I have started a new hobby, it's called ghost hunting. I like to go out late at night, to area's that are considered haunted and see if I can find a ghost. Usually I'll go with a few friends and it's a night out of fun! Sometimes we'll see red eyes in the cemetery, like The Victoria Lawn Cemetery in the Niagara Region. Or we've heard strange noises in the night, like soldiers, marching while out in Old Fort Erie at the Fort there. No matter where we went, though, I would always feel the cold air temperature drop, then sense something next to me. I had never seen a ghost, not until last week.
We all went to the blue ghost tunnel to find it. The west end, and some people were there with a digital camera. The girl went inside the tunnel and started to take pictures of the walls, the floor and the rafters. All of a sudden she lets out this scream and comes flying back to the doorway, look at this! It was a white mist and in it was the face of a grizzly, hairy man? There was nothing to see by the naked eye? No lights, but we did notice a mist rising up around us. The temperature dropped and I felt something cold and clammy on my arm. I swung around and no one was anywhere near me.
The cold clammy hand kept touching my back, my head and my arm, even as we made our way up the stone path, about 100 feet away from the tunnel. The girl was taking pictures over by the pump house and there appeared this big huge white orb over her friends head. I'm looking at the camera and seeing this white orb, and then with the naked eye, nothing but total darkness? It was really weird to see that for the first time in my life.
We were walking on the trail back out of there and she decided to snap more pictures. I advised her, that I felt all cold and clammy and it was a warm night. No one else felt cold or clammy, so she snapped a picture. She's like Oh my God! Look at her! And I ran over to see the camera, around my head and body were about fifty little orbs of light. She said I was surrounded by ghosts? I really didn't know what to think. First I had no idea what an orb was and then I told her to take pictures of everyone else around me. No orbs around them, except for the two guys standing to my right, there were six of them floating randomly around the back of them. She then took another picture of me again, and no orbs. So whatever was there, left and went on it's way.
I sensed only one thing, souls wanting a proper burial. They had not had a funeral and wanted one. So the next day, I went back. I went to the tunnel with my friends and we walked to the middle of it. I decided to say aloud, I bless your souls and release you to the other side. May your ashes be returned to ashes and your dust to dust. I wasn't sure if that would help, since i am not a minister. I asked people do u think only a minister can do a funeral? They said yes. Well i remember a few times I was my own funeral director for my first pet fish. I did my first funeral at the age of seven. Then the next one was for my other pet fishes over the years and other peoples pet fishes.
I just got into the habit of sending a blessing to those that had passed on. I figure if they are trying to contact me, by coming around me, it may have been for a reason. I looked up the history of the blue ghost tunnel and it's rather interesting. Some of the counts, are totally wrong about it all. People tell various stories about what happened. And it all was contradicting itself. So I decided to look up the newspaper add for January 3, 1903. I got the story straight after all. I found out the ghosts I had encountered weren't actually from the tunnel, but from the pond by the power house. It seems that they only removed 250 of the 900 or so graves, built it over the remaining 600 unclaimed graves!
I couldn't believe it when I read it. Then when I walked along the Bruce Trail, up to the back of the Power house, it said the number 6 in several areas. This must be where lock 6 is? It seems there were a lot of accidents by lock 6 when they built the 3rd canal. This was the same area, of the cemetery and where about 100 people had an untimely death. Strange or what? People back in the 1900's assumed it was haunted there. I had no idea that it was, and I wished I had a camera with me.
I still need to learn how to do ghost hunting the proper way. But I also want to know, why are those ghosts there? Is there anything we can do to make them go to the other side where they belong. They say ghosts are here due to unfinished business. Someday I'm sure I will find out. But I've always loved reading mystery stories, and now I'm having fun researching all this for myself. Who knows! Maybe this will be what one of my books will be about, the mystery of being a ghost.
