New Testament Bible Verse
John 20:27-29 (New International Version)
27 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe."
28 Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!"
29 Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
Thought for these Bible Verses
Man you can just imagine the disciples just sitting around mourning the death of Jesus, Thomas and probably a few others in the back of their minds were doubting Christ's return.
Some probably felt like they had wasted a lot of time following Jesus around for the past few months and years.
Then He walks in, and shows them His wounds, we all know what a wound looks like after a couple days.
Do you think the wounds had scabbed over, maybe a little puss and blood still seeping out?
Gross I know, but not as gross as the sight of the nails being driven in, the sword piercing his side and fluid gushing out as the earlier verses about the Crucifixion depict.
Question:
Why is it so hard for us to believe sometimes and why is it even harder to get others around us to believe?
When things don't go the way we planned why is our faith in God and Jesus Christ the first thing that slips?
Closing Thought
The next time you feel like your doubting Gods power and plan in your life, think about these verses and then try to imagine seeing Christ's wounds. Put yourself in Thomas's place staring strait at the wounds, running your fingers in and around the gashes in Christ's flesh.
