Blues music is one of the greatest genres of music to ever grace the earth, from it sprang the beginnings of rock and roll and big band. Blues music originated in the southern United States where the slaves would sing early blues songs as they worked in the fields, but the time for blues has come and passed. It will never die completely out of course, but it will never be revived as a mainstream musical style.
Listening to early Rock and Roll bands such as The Beatles, Led Zepellin, ZZ Top, and The Who, it is easy to hear the deep blues influence. Robert Plant himself started off his musical career as a blues singer; however, as music advances, popular music will never sound the same twice. Just as Classical music used to be the most popular music and then died down, Blues has also ran it's course.
This is a sad but true fact. Blues music is finished as a mainstream popular style of music, but it will remain an influence in all music forever. Just as rock has influenced modern pop, and early R&B influenced modern day Hip Hop and Rap.
Music is sadly cursed that it will never be popular in the same style more than once. Pop and rap will advance into some new style of music that none of us can fathom at the moment, and blues will never bounce back into popularity.
