How to have the perfect Fourth of July barbecue

There are many ways to have an enjoyable Fourth of July barbecue both for the guests and the host. Being a well organized host will prove to be the most important part of maintaining a happy status. Choosing a theme for your party should be easy; patriotic dishes, decorations and place settings. There are many recipes on the Internet that can help boost your confidence. The red, white and blue gelatin dessert is always a hit. If you are celebrating in a hot climate; having as many "lite" foods as possible helps keep with the temperature outdoors. Heavy foods should be avoided for this type of party. If at all possible try to have some help from a spouse or a close friend. Split up the responsibilities between you and your partner.

Many areas have fireworks in the evening. If your party is within an viewing area of the fireworks; consider having an evening party with party lanterns and torches lining your backyard. At dusk have some water games if children will be guests. Having a buffet style dinner will be easier on the host. Line your table with patriotic tablecloths and flag center pieces. Set round tables in the yard and decorate them as well. Have a wet bar set up with a variety of drinks.
Having goody bags ready for your guests would be a great addition to your party. The bags should include; flag pins, poppers, noise makers, and glow necklaces. This makes for a bright and fun celebration during the fireworks show.
On your invitations you should be specific about what type of foods you are planning on serving and if water games will be included. This description will allow guests to be ready for whatever the evening will include. Insert a menu as well. If you are planning on having a choice in meat types you may want to include a choice slip with an RSVP. This will help you prepare the right amount of food with less waste.
Before the evening of your party you want to go through a check list to be sure you have everything you need for your party. Always be sure if your using a gas grill to check your amount of gas. Often a party can be ruined by low or no gas in a grill. Check the weather for rain and have a backup plan for all your guests; should the weather change. Sometimes keeping things simple is what makes a great party. Trying to be overcomplicated will only keep the host busy and may alter the attitude of the host towards the guests. After all the party is to be enjoyed by all who attend; including the host.
