One of the best possible ways to make money in Runescape is mining. This is a guide (for non-members) about how to get your mining level way up there, and where to sell your ores (or smith them if you like).
Levels 1-29
Personally I always mined at the two mines in front of Varrock until I was level 30. These two mines have all you need. They've got clay, copper and tin (the two ores needed to create copper), iron and, at the mine to the east, has some silver. What makes these mines even better is that if you plan to smith the ores, you can go to the south and there's a furnace right outside of Lumbridge Castle. You can make your bars then if you go back to Varrock, there are two sets of anvils; one just south of the east bank the other, northeast of the west bank. And to make it even better, the latter set is in an armor shop, so if you are smithing platebodies or chainbodies, you can sell them here.
Levels 30-84
Now onto the best non-member mine out there. The Dwarven Mine. It has from clay to adamant within its depths. I waited till you were level 30 to introduce you to the Dwarven Mine for a reason. Sure it has tin and copper, but the fact of the matter is, the Varrock mines are better for those ores and much, much safer. Despite the fact that it has the widest range of minerals in it, the Dwarven Mine isn't a place I would suggest for those with combat levels under 30 or so. It bears level 14 scorpions and level 32 king scorpions.
Anyway, getting past that, this is probably the best place to mine. It has lots of coal (or at least the most of any mine I know of). The competition is pretty intense but it doesn't take that long for you to get a full load.
Once you reach level 55, you can start mining mithril (mith as its known in the game). But, if you're in the Dwarven Mines, you're lucky. You don't have to go anywhere. There's mith, right there in those mines.
Another great thing about these mines is that they house the esteemed Mining Guild. Once you reach level 60, you can enter this renowned place. It holds tons of coal (usually enough to go around at any given time) and five mith rocks.
At level 70, you can start mining adamant. Again, you're lucky because the Dwarven Mine houses this as well.
Levels 85-99
Once you reach mining level 85, you're in a spot of trouble. The only non-member runite mine I know of is in the wilderness. My suggestion? Take only your pick, and some food if you want to fight. Another thing, if you don't want to lose your pick, make sure it's Rune.
There you go. That's all there is to it. It takes a long time to level up in this skill (trust me). But if you persevere, you'll get up there mining anything you want.
Selling
One more quick thing. If you plan on selling the ores, always sell them at the Grand Exchange. You're able to sell more at a time quicker, and you usually get more money here anyway. This will also usually hold true when selling armor as well.
